Beadwork and Porcupine Quillwork of the 19th century Plains Indian is Smith’s specialty.

Having learned quillwork in the sacred way of the Cheyenne River Sioux, Smith earned the right to practice the art.  Apprenticeship with one of he last Double Woman Dreamers fulfilled her passion to learn the old ways before they disappeared.

Brain tanned deer and bighorn sheep hides, original stock glass beads from Venice, earth pigments, human hair locks, ermine skinsmand natural dyes are her materials.

“I strive to retain the Spirit intended in each piece, my work is not merely a copy or replica of an artifact, it is in fact an Original infused with meaning and inherently powerful.”
